Abstract

Academic performance is influenced by several variables, such as IQ, Grit and academic engagement. The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between these three variables and academic performance. A sample of 141 participants was sampled and a multiple regression analysis was performed. The results indicated that there was no significant relationship between any of the variables and academic performance.

These findings are consistent with previous studies indicating that, although intelligence is an initial predictor of academic performance, its influence diminishes at higher levels of education. In addition, Grit and academic engagement, which were expected to have a positive impact, also did not show to have a relevant impact in this study. However, it is important to consider some limitations of this study. First, the sample was relatively small and not representative of the general population. Second, the study was based on self-reports, which may introduce biases in the results. Third, the study did not control for other variables that could influence academic performance, such as socioeconomic status or family support. Despite these limitations, the results of the study provide valuable information on the relationship between IQ, Grit, academic engagement and academic performance. The results suggest that, although these variables may have an impact on academic performance, their influence may be less than previously thought.
