EVOLUTION OF GIFTED STUDENTS ENROLLMENTS IN MATO GROSSO DO SUL FROM 2009 TO 2019

Giftedness is gaining a growing interest in contexts of formal education, since nowadays, it is sought a better understanding of the processes of identification and care related to its public, in an attempt to give educational attention to their needs. However, in order to guarantee the emergency of initiatives that aim to develop the potentialities of this population group, it is necessary to recognize it in the school contexts and plan strategies that are able to contemplate its formative demands. In view of the discussion, the present study originated from concerns related to the mapping of students with gifted behaviors enrolled in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul and proposed to analyze the evolution of gifted students enrollments in the cities of Mato Grosso do Sul from 2009 to 2019. The method used to carry out this work is descriptive research, and the data referring to enrollment was treated quantitatively by descriptive statistics. The results indicated that there has been a significant increase in the number of gifted students enrolled in the state, but it is worth reflecting that the inclusion of these students goes far beyond their presence in school institutions: it is necessary to offer them opportunities, in order to grant an educational attention to their specificities through services and practices (curricular and extracurricular) that develop their potentials.
