In order to improve the quality of teaching directed to students with high ability (HA), it is important to know how they approach learning. The objective of this research is to analyze what type of approach is used by students with HA in Primary and Secondary Education to better understand their learning process. The sample consisted of 25 students, aged between 10-13 years, belonging to the province of Gipuzkoa. The R-SPQ-2F questionnaire was applied and open questions were asked about the importance and usefulness of the subject content, and about the achievements and effort made. The results show that a majority (76-80%) have a deep motivation, strategy and approach, which are related to the importance given to the content and methodologies applied in the subjects. In conclusion, most of the participants use a perspective of deep self-determination (motivation) and metacognitive processes (strategies).
